The Tragedy That Occurred 9/11

The fact that the weather was nice that day is hard for me to imagine. The memory I have is hard to displace. The horrendous chaos that occurred will haunt me forever.

Michael had already opened the pub for some regular customers. My wife’s car broke down on the way, so I was 15 minutes late. Michael did not like when people were late and he did not care much for reasons either. That is why I had to run over here and my wife had to wait for a car carrier. Besides, her former boss at Cantor Fitzgerald loved her. God bless his soul.

I tried to ignore the cold look Michael gave me by looking at the clock. I remember this moment like it was yesterday. The seconds hand on the clock passed twelve and the time was 08:46. This explosion caught everybodys detention. We ran outside to get a better look. I noticed smoke coming out from the North Tower.

”Dear god, that has to be a small plane or something?” Micheal said.

We ran up towards the roof to get a better look, when a small earthquake emerged. Michael then closed the pub and we all drove away in his small 4 passanger seat car to safety. I still have a clear memory of the tradegy, even though I was stiff and shocked during the whole experience. I am now just relieved over the fact that my wife did not go to work that day.

“Five years from the date of the attack that changed our world, we’ve come back to remember the valor of those we lost—those who innocently went to work that day and the brave souls who went in after them. We have also come to be ever mindful of the courage of those who grieve for them, and the light that still lives in their hearts.”

—New York City mayor Rudolph Giuliani at the World Trade Center site in 2006

So What?

žWhat was the point of the movie The Fifth Estate?
  • To prove that we live in a time where almost no information is safe. A, internet revolution for information sharing.
  • To expose deception and corruption
  • To creat an important question about the society today. «What are the costs of keeping secrets in a free society-and what are the costs of exposing them?»
ž
žWhy do you think you had to watch it and discuss it in class?
  • To reflect on the question «What are the costs of keeping secrets in a free society-and what are the costs of exposing them?»
  • To understand the power one single person can have today
  • To understand that more about the world in general
What can we learn from this movie?
Some of the reasons that I have already pointed out. It is actually a huge dilemma.
And to end this with a perspective of the situation we are in as a society
“The more you can escape from how horrible things really are, the less it’s going to bother you…and then, the worse things get.”

IBM – an American multinational technology and consulting corporation

International Business Machines Corporation, or IBM, depends on how patient you are. What does IBM (impatient..) really do?

The simple answer is, alot, so it is almost easier to tell you what they do not do. They do not sell personal computers anymore.

IBM might be the only technology company you’ll need to solve your technical challenges. We can break down their offerings into solutions, services and products.

  1. With solutions they solve your problem.
  2. With services they solve a part of your problem
  3. With products they enable you to solve your problems.

They are also actually helping to make food safer and heartier. They do that by tracing food from the farm to the fork.

How do we capture and save a potentially significant moment?

I just read this fantastic essay by Damon Brown. He takes a look at why we are obsessed with documenting our lives online and he gives this perfect example from his wedding where he chose to not bring his phone. The funny thing is that his uncle was so excited to watch a recap of what had happened because he had been busy trying to capture the beautiful moments as they were actually happening.

He all in all brings up some interesting thoughts about the subject.

I especially love this extract of the story:

”We want these archives, whether digital or physical, to point back to the very real experience we had, or, just as importantly, to give us insight into someone else’s experience”

Recommend reading the essay!
